The Re-opening Arts Centres Guidelines published earlier this year have been updated. Once they’ve been endorsed by sector and health authorities, they will be re-issued. This second edition, renamed Arts Centres – Working during COVID-19, A Framework, takes account of the latest public health information, legislative changes and good practices that have been developed and adopted by so many organisations. We’re working with the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland to make sure this edition of the guidelines includes all the relevant standards, especially public health ones.

With the expected reduction of Level 5 restrictions to Level 3, arts centres and theatres will be able to open as workplaces for artists and companies in residence as well as developing/rehearsing and recording work. However, at Level 3 audiences are limited to those watching streamed or pre-recorded events and small numbers at outdoor events.

This lengthy hiatus in audiences attending live performance means artists, producers and programmers see a return to live performance being pushed further and further into the future. Before the publication of the 2nd edition of these guidelines, let us know about the production and audience issues that are of most concern to you now and into 2021. Mail us on manager@theatreforum.ie and we’ll bring them to the attention of the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland as well as the Department.
