Description

Dublin Book Festival will host a series of events at Smock Alley.

On our launch night, join Seán Rocks of RTÉ Radio 1’s Arena for a live broadcast as he leads an evening of lively music, readings and conversation.

On the anniversary of George Bernard Shaw’s death, Fintan O’Toole,

author of Judging Shaw (Royal Irish Academy), will unravel the genius

and humour of the first person to win both a Nobel Prize and an Oscar

through conversation, song and performed extracts from Shaw’s work.

They will be joined by artistic director Annabelle Comyn, who is

responsible for directing critically and commercially successful plays

such as Shaw’s Pygmalion. The evening will centre on two of Ireland’s

literary giants, with Dermot Bolger discussing the work and life of

James Joyce. The legend of Shaw and Joyce will be framed within the

context of contemporary Irish talent, with Carlo Gébler speaking about

his new coming-of-age novel, Innocent of Falkland Road (New Island

Books).
